Artist / Designer / Entrepreneur

Artist statement
Although I consider myself a natural-born artist with some unique abilities, after many years I decided to explore careers outside the world of art. Applying the skills and experience I acquired as an artist, I successfully built a career as a fashion designer which drew me to entrepreneurship. I find that being an entrepreneur inspires me to think more deeply than I did before, and encourages me to develop philosophies about life and the world. While my path in life has brought me to many different environments and careers beyond the art world, my devotion to art is lifelong. At this point in my life, I feel comfortable setting painting aside and considering it a part-time career and a hobby. I believe this will increase my creativity and appreciation for my works because it will allow me to focus on expression without the pressure to create. Now I see painting not as a full-time job, but as a means to reflect on and share my experiences in the world.
Styles of my oil painting
(Style School Years)
No one had taught me about any art history until going to college, it just appeared to be the style I like at my young teen. I recalled using crayons when I started holding a pen. As an only child in the family, I never feel alone, not even by myself and no one around. With color and paper by my side, I can entertain myself to paint for hours. I know my parents were not too happy about it since none of my early childhood crayons painting was kept! I still have a bit of memory of few artworks but I know they will fade away as I grow older.
I realize I can read the painter's minds like reading a book when I first look at actual paintings at the museums in London -- not every artist can be read like an open book, some did know how to hide emotion. Some who did not like to be read know how to erased every step of the love and hate behind every brush stroke.
"My first oil painting" is my first painting, I seldom do this traditional style anymore, which style reminds my hardship as an artist and designer over the years.
(Blue and Purple Period)
My interest in the colors blue and purple began one chilly winter evening in Chicago. I found an art supply store that was going out of business and decided to stock up on a full box each of blue and purple oil paints. I was very excited to be painting with these new colors. I discovered that on their own or in combination, depending upon the intensity, they can produce a variety of warm or cold tones. Using these colors, I painted “Appearance” which was completed in about two and a half days, shortly followed by “Metamorphosis”. I still have a fondness for these colors, and continue to use them from time to time.
(Black Period)
I began this period when I was in Chicago, around the time of the Blue and Purple Period. The initial painting of this period was my first self-portrait called “The Mirror”. These pieces reflect my love of Greek mythology, whose stories and imagery made a lasting impression on me. To this day, they continue to influence my works.
After viewing the pieces from this period, some people have remarked the subject matter in this collection is gloomy and ominous. Most people may not consider black to be a very complex color, but I believe it has the ability to create feelings of subtlety, sophistication, elegance, mysteriousness, and solitude. I enjoy the colors black, charcoal, and gray and often incorporate them into my works of art, as my clothing pieces, and my wardrobe.
(Style Butterfly)
My love of butterflies is reflected in this series, which came after the Blue and Purple Period. The first painting of the series is “Two Illusions”, which features a butterfly resting upon the lily painted on a surface because the butterfly believes the flower is real. I was surprised to find that I enjoyed butterflies so much as to include them in my paintings as well as my apparel collections.
The many varieties of colors of butterflies have always amazed me. I remember spending hours chasing them when I was a young boy, and since then I have loved butterflies. Nowadays, I hardly see any butterflies except in photographs.
(Style Idealism)
My definition of art is “the beauty of knowledge.” I express my thoughts, feelings, and ideas through art. While I enjoy the challenge of varying my painting styles, all of my works utilize structure and the Golden Ratio rule. Ideas for my paintings often spring from fragments of dreams, or at night when my mind is clearer and open to different concepts. I never know where my next inspiration will come from, but I will follow my dreams wherever they may lead!
To be considered good art, a piece must meet a set of criteria. For example, it should reflect the balance between color tone and value; make good overall use of composition and perspective; utilize subject proportion and negative spaces; the use of line in opposition to shape and form. A good work of art successfully combines all or some of these criteria to make an impact on the viewer.
(Exclusive- Collection and Commission)
Any artist or designer would enjoy projects that require thinking outside the box, and I am no exception. Interested parties may contact me or my agents to discuss special collections or commission works.
